Road Restrictions in Mallorca: Tips for Motorcyclists 2025
PROHIBITIONS AND RESTRICTIONS ON THE ISLAND OF MAJORCA
CAP FORMENTOR, PLAYA DE FORMENTOR, SA CALOBRA
These three destinations are among the most visited on the island of Majorca. They are visited every year by tourists in rented cars or tourist coaches. We always recommend visiting these places on a rented motorbike, which, besides being objectively a much more practical means of transport, certainly creates a much less heavy impact on the roads, car parks and the environment of Mallorca.
The authorities are also trying to remedy this problem by placing bans and restrictions that unfortunately also penalise two-wheelers, which today represent a valid alternative. (see our article on the motorbike: a sustainable means of transport).
Here is some information that will help those who rent a DUCATI at MMR22 avoid contravening the bans and restrictions that can lead to fines.
CAP DE FORMENTOR
The Cap de Formentor lighthouse is a favourite destination for all tourists. Located on the northernmost tip of Majorca, it offers an incomparable view. Even the road to reach it is a real and continuous gymkhana that appeals to all motorcyclists.
But WARNING, the road to the lighthouse is not open all year round to private motorised traffic; the “Consell de Mallorca” stipulates that in order to protect the landscape heritage of the Serra de Tramuntana, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, access is restricted. From 1 June 2025 to 31 October 2025, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. the MA-2210 that connects Port de Pollença to the lighthouse (from km 8.7 to km 19.6) in both directions, cannot be travelled by the following vehicles:
- Cars without authorisation;
- Motorbikes without authorisation;
- Trucks/caravans without authorisation.
On the other hand, the following may enter
- public transport vehicles (TIB);
- residents of Mallorca with a permit and vehicles carrying persons with reduced mobility (for this an authorisation must be obtained);
- medical, rescue, emergency and security vehicles;
- cyclists and walkers.
Residents, vehicles transporting persons with reduced mobility and any other authorised persons must contact the DGT at least three working days in advance by e-mail at formentor@dgt.es.
Financial penalties will be imposed on all vehicles that circulate without authorisation or do not respect the timetable.
Alternatively, you can use the public transport service. Line 334 connects the Cap Formentor peninsula with Port de Pollença and the historic centre of Alcudia.
If you arrive with your rented Ducati at Port de Pollença, you can park the bike and take the bus on the ring road where there are two stops Port de Pollença centre Can Singala.
As for Formentor Beach, access remains open until the capacity of parking spaces in the car park reserved for this beach is reached.
When you want to make the most of your visit to Cap de Formentor, without too many tourists with all the curves at your disposal, organise your “DUCATI EXPERIENCE IN MALLORCA” during the months when the restrictions are lifted. We at MMR22 are open all year round and will be happy to accompany you!
Sa Calobra Port, Beach
The municipality of Escorca has installed a camera at the access point of the ACIRE area of Sa Calobra, at the entrance to the port. The camera is able to detect the number plates of authorised vehicles with the aim of preventing unauthorised vehicles from passing through and parking in the areas designated for residents. Beware that Ducatis are also not allowed and if they exceed this limit, a penalty is guaranteed.
