Mallorca also has a lot to offer: History, architecture, museums and culture in general.

When handing over a Ducati to a customer at our rental station in Palma, we mainly advise on routes and tours that can be undertaken with the motorbike. Then we also give advice about Mallorca and all its different possibilities. We call it : The beauty within the beauty!

Below we would like to give you some places that you should visit and that deserve your attention. It would be a shame to visit Mallorca without taking advantage of some of the wonders on offer:

MUSEUM TO VISIT

Modern and contemporary art museums

Facade-museum-art-contemporary

Mallorca offers the possibility of satisfying even the most demanding modern and contemporary art lovers.

Even if you are not interested in art, during your stay on the island you should not miss the opportunity to visit the most important museums: the Juan March Foundation and Es Baluard in Palma and Can Prunera in Soller.

Fundación Juan March - Located in the historic centre of Palma, it not only houses important collections of artworks by Spanish artists of the 20th century, but also temporary exhibitions and cultural activities.

Es Baluard - Designed in 2003 by Lluís García-Ruiz, Jaume García-Ruiz, Vicente Tomás and Angel Sánchez Cantalejo, the museum covers an area of around 5,000 square metres and is integrated into the old city walls of Palma. The museum's permanent exhibition houses works by famous artists such as Juan Miró, Barceló, Magritte and Picasso. But the experience of the visit does not end with viewing the works of these artists. The architectural complex itself, with its structural elements such as ramps, skylights and balconies, is a place to be appreciated as much as its contents. You can also enjoy a privileged view of the city from here.

Can Punera - Located in Soller, this house was built between 1904 and 1911 and is attributed to Joan Rubió i Bellver, a Catalan architect who worked with Antoni Gaudí in Mallorca. With its Catalan and French Art Nouveau influences, the characteristic decorations on the façade, the stained glass windows and the floral patterned floors, it is an exceptional example of Modernisme in Mallorca.

In addition to its original décor, Can Prunera houses a modernist museum with a permanent exhibition of works by Joan Miró, Toulouse-Lautrec, Paul Klee, Fernand Léger and other Mallorcan and non-Mallorcan artists who nevertheless have a connection to the island.

Fundación Joan Miro

If you are passionate about the works of Joan Miró, the foundation of the same name not only allows you to discover the works, but also to immerse yourself in the places where the artist created his works.

The Yannick and Ben Jakober Foundation - Sa Bassa Blanca. Fully integrated into the natural surroundings of Alcudia in the north of the island, the foundation houses a collection of more than 150 portraits of children from the 16th to 19th centuries. Next to the museum is a hortus conclusus, a medieval walled garden adorned with over a hundred varieties of roses. Within the foundation is also the sculpture park, which consists of stone elements depicting animals and inspired by archaeological pieces currently on display in various museums around the world.

HISTORICAL MUSEUMS

The Museo de Mallorca, that of Bellver Castle and the Museum of Decorative Arts, to name but a few, are some of the most important, whose visit gives the visitor the opportunity to learn about the cultural and historical heritage of the island through archaeology, sculpture, painting and artefacts in general.

Museo Histórico Militar de San Carlos

Centuries ago, merchant ships anchored in the bay of Palma, in the bay of Porto Pi, to protect themselves from the threats of Mediterranean pirates.

At the beginning of the 17th century, the first castle was built here on a watchtower, the castle of San Carlos. The imposing fortress, which is interesting due to its privileged location and architecture, can be visited free of charge from Tuesday to Sunday from 10 am to 2 pm and houses a museum that tells the military history of Mallorca in several monographic rooms.

ETHNOLOGICAL MUSEUMS

Mueso-del-fang

When visiting these museums, you can learn more about the crafts and traditions of Mallorca through tools and instruments.

The Ethnographic Museum of Muro - The museum is housed in a 17th century house and has a collection of traditional artefacts that tell the story of daily life in past centuries.

During a visit, you can learn about local traditions and admire typical clothing and utensils from the rural Mallorcan world.

Els Calderers - The historic finca of Els Calderers is located between the villages of Sant Joan and Vilafranca de Bonany. The visit is a real walk to discover the Mallorcan country life of past centuries.

Cosme Bauçà Foundation - a prestigious building in Felanitx houses this museum and library with the aim of disseminating the history and culture of Mallorca.

Shoe and Leather Museum - This museum is located in Inca and shows the history of shoe and leather processing from the 13th century to the present day.

Gordiola Glass Museum - Located in Algaida, on the road to Manacor, this glassworks dates back to 1719. Visitors have the opportunity to observe the glassblowing process up close and see the Gordiola family's most important collections.

Museu del Fang de Marratxí

The Museu del Fang is located in a mill in the village of Sa Cabaneta and offers visitors the opportunity to get to know traditional Mallorcan ceramics, especially those from Marratxí. The museum consists of four rooms and an outdoor area and shows the different techniques and uses associated with the world of ceramics. At the end of the visit there is the opportunity to take part in a clay workshop.

For more information on opening hours, visit the museum's official website https://www.marratxi.es/museu-del-fang/

RELIGIOUS MUSEUMS

The Miramar Monastery Museum, the Diocesan Museum of Mallorca and the Cathedral Museum are three emblematic places that give an insight into the most important religious buildings in Mallorca and the collections they house.

ARCHITECTURE NOT TO BE MISSED

Palma de Mallorca Cathedral

View-of-palm-cathedral-with-red-moto

It is the symbol of the city of Palma, known as ‘la Seu’ or Catedral del Mar, and is located on the Paseo Maritimo between the Almudaina Palace and the Episcopal Palace. Together with the Almudaina Palace, it is the symbol of the city of Palma.

It was built with stones from the sandstone quarries in the Santany area and takes on different colours depending on the time of day, ranging from ochre to gold and pink.

The origins of its construction date back to the 13th century and ended in 1630. Although it belongs to the Mediterranean Gothic tradition, it has been remodelled over the centuries, incorporating modern and contemporary forms and styles.

The Almudaina

The official residence of the royal family during their stays in Mallorca is a palace that reflects the different artistic styles that have alternated throughout the island's history. Its construction began in 1281 and lasted until 1343.

The main elements of the structure of the Almudaina Palace are the palaces of the King and Queen, the Chapel of Santa Ana and the Arab baths.

Admission is free on Wednesdays and Sundays from 3pm to 7pm.

La Llotja Palace

Palace-of-Llotja

To continue the Gothic route in Palma, we recommend a visit to the elegant La Llotja Palace.

This building was constructed in the first half of the 15th century by the most important Mallorcan sculptor Guillem Sagrera and served as a meeting point for merchants who concluded trade contracts here.

The interior of this rectangular building is divided into twelve bays by helical columns without a base or capital.

The exterior is characterised by four octagonal corner towers and ten smaller ones that serve as buttresses.

The interior is only accessible for temporary exhibitions.

The small forecourt has a lively atmosphere and you can sit at a table in one of the many bars or restaurants.

Bellver Castle

Its name says it all: beautiful views.

This castle is another example of Gothic architecture in Mallorca. It was built in the 14th century at a height of 112 metres above sea level and from here you have an incomparable view of the city of Palma and its bay.

Its structure makes it one of the few castles in Europe with a circular floor plan. Formerly a refuge and prison, today it houses the Historical Museum of Palma.

Casasayas building

The Casasayas building is an example of Mallorcan modernist architecture.

Together with the Pension Mallorquina, which is separated by Calle de Santacicilia, it is one of the most important buildings in the city.
