The weekly market in Sineu

Every Wednesday, one of the island's oldest pueblos hosts the long-awaited and characteristic market. Handicrafts, local products, street food. Sineu is definitely worth a visit for the history of its buildings that bear witness to bygone ages.

Sineu is a pueblo located in the center of the island in the area of Mallorca that is referred to as the "Pla," the plain between the two mountain ranges, the Serra de Tramuntana to the northeast and the Serra de Llevant to the southeast. A visit to Sineu is a must if you plan an itinerary in the interior of the island. Especially, every Wednesday there is a market (8:00 am to 1:30 pm) that is a very important event for both residents and tourists who flock there. Its history is very old and dates back some 700 years when Jaume II of Mallorca established it in 1306. Sineu back then already represented a weekly meeting place where merchants, artisans, and peasants gathered to exchange goods and which the Arabs called "Suq al-arba'a." Even today in Sineu one can appreciate the liveliness and atmosphere typical of the market with still local producers marketing 0-kilometer products. Given its barycentric location, getting to Sineu from any part of the island is very convenient; from Palma you can take the MA-3011 which will take you to your destination in 30 km.
