Tour of the caves
Visiting the caves of Majorca with a hired Ducati
THE ROADS OF THE ISLAND OF MALLORCA WITH A RENTED MOTORBIKE:
TOUR OF THE CAVES
Did you know that the island of Majorca is rich in Caves? These places are not only an opportunity to visit something different but are also valuable destinations for motorbike tours. There are some very famous ones, but also some lesser-known but equally interesting ones. To reach these places you can find different types of roads and routes; some challenging, others less so, but all very impressive.
In Mallorca, reaching one of our suggested destinations always involves passing close to other places of interest and it would be a shame to miss the chance to combine a visit to a cave with a cove, a beach, a monastery or simply a quaint village. Stopping for a lunch break in a good restaurant with typical cuisine is always advisable. Calm and relaxation are always a key component of a good motorcycling tour!
For us at MMR22, the motorbike is not just a means of getting from one part of the island to another, avoiding traffic and the difficulty of finding a parking space. Using a motorbike on the island of Mallorca is a fundamental part of your holiday. We call all this:
"DUCATI EXPERIENCE IN MALLORCA".
In Majorca we have 'land' caves that can be reached with our rented motorbikes and 'water' caves that can only be reached by sea. Unfortunately at the moment DUCATI does not yet produce water motorbikes but in the future maybe.........
-Mallorca's most famous land caves are undoubtedly those of the Dragon, Cuevas del Drach, www.cuevasdeldrach.com located just a few metres from the sea in Porto Cristo. At 1,200 metres long and 25 metres deep, they house one of the largest underground lakes in the world. Huge motorbike park, route difficulty: easy. On your way to visit the caves, you cannot miss the village of Porto Cristo, which is full of typical restaurants. In this area you will find some of the most beautiful coves in Mallorca. A visit to the Sanctuary of San Salvador located just a few kilometres from the dragon caves, from which you can dominate the whole island, is a must (see our Monastery Tour). If you fancy a nice swim, you can end the day by going to one of the most beautiful beaches in Mallorca in the Mondrago Natural Park (see our Tour of Beaches with a rented motorbike) or you can continue on to the Lighthouses of Ses Salines (see our Tour of Lighthouses with a rented motorbike)
-The Artà Caves, are less large but just as impressive. They are situated on top of a cliff with the entrance directly facing the sea. They contain one of the Stalagmites, which at 22 metres is one of the largest in the world. Drive along the Canyamel coast to Cap Vermell. There are 2 car parks, the one for motorbikes being the second, located right in front of the entrance to the caves. Difficulty of the route: easy. Once you have visited the caves you can continue with your Ducati to the town of Capdepera where you can visit the Castle and go to the LIGHTHOUSE overlooking the sea (see our Lighthouse Tour with a rented motorbike)
-The Caves of Hams, which in Majorcan means hooks, comprise three caves: the Round Cave, an open space that houses a botanical garden with many species of native birds. The Blue Cave, in which you can admire the 'Blue Columns', the 'Plains of Fra Mauro' and the 'Hell's Pit'. Finally, the Classic Cave, consisting of 12 galleries. They contain the 'Sea of Venice' in which a musical performance will be offered. They are located on the road from Manacor to Porto Cristo MA 4020 not far from the Caves of the Dragon. A visit to the Sanctuary of San Salvador located just a few kilometers from the Dragon Caves, from which you can dominate the whole island, is a must (see our Monastery Tour with a rented motorbike)
-The Caves of Génova on the Serra de Naburguesa are located 10 minutes from the centre of Palma de Mallorca where we remind you that our rented motorbikes can circulate almost everywhere (see FAQS section). They consist of a set of interconnected caverns and tunnels that take you up to 36 metres deep. In addition, their proximity to the numerous coves and beaches on the Calvià coast make a visit to these caves particularly interesting. Ample parking for motorbikes: route difficulty: easy.
-The Caves of Campanet defined as 'a paradise in the heart of the Serra de Tramuntana' are located on the southern slope of the Monte de San Miquel in Campanet, a village close to the town of SaPobla. Twelve million years old, they are among the most impressive underground galleries in Mallorca. Over 3200 square metres of limestone formations decorate all the caves. There is ample parking for motorbikes with a typical Majorcan restaurant. Once you have finished your visit, you can start your adventurous drive on the mythical 'Serra de Tramuntana' via Sa Pobla and from the town of Alcudia. (see our Tours with a rented motorbike). We also recommend a visit to the lighthouse of Cap de Formentor (see our Tours with. a rented motorbike).
